Taylor Swift Skips iHeartRadio Music Awards in Most Casual "Tortured Poets Department" Look
Taylor Swift's personal style is this: even when skipping the red carpet and delivering her acceptance speech on Zoom, she sticks to the aesthetic of the current album cycle. Such was the case with an honor the burgeoning director and decorated singer remotely embraced Monday night, with a low-key take on her uniform from the "Tortured Poet Category" era.
Swift effectively received three fan-voted trophies at the 2024 iHeartRadio Music Awards: artist of the year, pop artist of the year, and tour of the year. In her pre-recorded acceptance speech, which aired at the Los Angeles, California, event, Swift appeared on camera in a navy blue bodysuit and gold jewelry. Her signature red lips and side-parted blonde hair were also (virtually) in attendance.
"I want to say thank you so much to everyone who voted for me for this award," Swift said in her acceptance speech. 'You have been so incredibly supportive throughout my entire career, but especially this year, which has been so amazing, and I really appreciate it.'
Swift's look was a 180-degree turn from the custom-made Schiaparelli Grammys outfit she wore earlier in the year, which was more laid-back and appropriate for a Nobu lunch date with Travis Kells than a step-and-repeat. (The iHeartRadio Music Awards are more casual for an awards show, allowing artists to show their style in a more relaxed atmosphere.) Her longtime stylist, Joseph Cassell-Falconer, probably worked with her on this look.
While the two did not comment on her remote awards ceremony bodysuit (they rarely speak out about her wardrobe in general), it was clearly parallel to her upcoming album cover. As with the previously released artwork for Tortured Poets, Swift wears a neutral-toned, fitted undergarment. This time, the navy bodysuit is from Alix New York, while a variation of the album jacket shows her wearing a more modest item from The Row.
Swift also repeated two accessories that fans had previously noted: her T-bar gold necklace and T-initial charm earrings.
Overall, the look, which mixes neutral basics with the sparkle of gold jewelry, is consistent with the preppy-chic outfits she has associated with her upcoming album. From a casual dinner with friends in New York City to an Eras tour in Sydney, Australia, Swift has been wearing academic pleats and structured leather accessories by designers such as Miu Miu, Sandy Liang, and The Row, as well as Tortured Poets have heralded the Poets' moody soundscapes.
In Swift's long history of awards appearances, the iHeartRadio Music Awards are usually a chance to take a more playful approach to her current album-era aesthetic. In her last appearance, in 2023, she winked at the hazy glamour of the Midnights era in a hooded, bijoux Alexandre Vauthier jumpsuit; for 2019's "Lover," she sparkled in a pastel sequined romper and butterfly-embellished heels; and for "The Lover," she wore a black and white, black and white, black and white, and a black and white, black and white, and a black and white, black and white, and a white and white, white and white, For her folklore triumph in the midst of the 2021 pandemic, she opted for a folksy floral print and braided crown bun.
The bodysuits, corset tops, pleated miniskirts, and loafers Swift has worn in the past few months will all (likely) correspond to the expanded album visuals when Tortured Poets finally arrives; Swifties are As if I needed reminding, the "Anti-Hero" artist noted in her speech that her much-anticipated 11th studio album is just a few weeks away.
"You know, we have a lot of exciting things ahead of us. The tour continues, and most importantly, we have a new album, The Tortured Poets Department, which will be released on April 19. I can't wait to share it with everyone. I can't wait to keep having fun with you guys.
Note the repetition: Swift mentioned "exciting things" twice. While other Swifties are deciphering whether her double allusion is some sort of Easter egg, you can purchase a variation of Swift's understated bodysuit and jewelry combination below.
