Beyoncé invites Texas to Los Angeles in vintage Versace

This isn't Texas (it's actually Los Angeles), and Beyonce is no ordinary cowgirl. Last night, the superstar appeared country-style at the iHeartRadio Music Awards at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, where she received the Innovator Award just days after releasing Cowboy Carter.

Beyoncé has been country-era in every outfit, from her glittery sequined ten-gallon hat to her head-to-toe denim to her ribbon bolo tie. Monday night was no different. True to her "innovator" moniker, Beyonce came out in an all-leather, high-glam western look

that was as much a part of the show as it was a part of the show itself.

The black leather Versace number is a vintage set from the Fall/Winter 1992 collection and a piece of fashion history. The fringed jacket and matching pants were designed by the late Gianni Versace, founder of the brand and originally modeled by Naomi Campbell.

Each item is adorned with gold medusa hardware. Underneath the top, stitched with white thread and buttoned at the front with gold snaps like western chambray, there are (literally) layers of zippered layers, like a bomber jacket. The pants are a cowgirl pattern with studs on both legs. Black leather pointed-toe Versace stiletto boots with gold Medusa "buckles," a Versace cowboy hat from the brand's Spring/Summer 2018 collection, and chunky gold hoop earrings completed the look.

Fashion editors would be remiss not to mention the two (count 'em) thick leather belts that tie the outfit together. And like many of Cowboy Carter's recent looks, Bey finished it off with a pair of dark sunglasses.

"Being an innovator often means being criticized, and that often tests your mental strength," Beyonce said last night while accepting the award. My wish is that we all become more open to the joy and liberation that comes from enjoying art without preconceived notions." She doesn't have to tell her fans twice.
