Emily Ratajkowksi demonstrates a trendy layering trick on a rainy day
Emily Ratajkovksi has mastered dressing for any New York weather. New York's version of spring has so far emphasized the significance of "April showers," but the supermodel won't let the rain ruin her street style moment. On Wednesday, Ratajakovksi temporarily escaped her comfortable morning indoors and weathered the storm with the help of a viral layering hack.
Ratayakowski's rainy day look consisted of three monochromatic tops layered together. She was spotted in New York City dressed head-to-toe in all black, including a sleek oversized leather blazer worn over what appeared to be a hoodie and a black crew-neck T-shirt collar. She also wore baggy Waysblood sweatpants.
The "High Low" podcast host accessorized with black sunglasses, even though the sun was nowhere in sight. She also wore multi-colored crew socks and, once again, Puma Speed Cat OG sneakers.
Now, Ratakowski may not have been too aware of the simple one-two coordinate, but coincidentally she endorsed this year's layering trick, the "shirt sandwich." It may not seem groundbreaking at first glance, but it has become an effective styling method on the runway and in street style.
The "shirt sandwich" method, worn by Ratajkowski and seen in collections from Bottega Veneta to Victoria Beckham, involves layering "two shirts (typically a thin turtleneck and knit layer) with a third shirt," according to the look's advocate Leandra Medine Cohen, who is a proponent of the look, explained to Marie Claire.
While several tops in different colors and patterns can be layered, Ratakowski shows that contrasting silhouettes and textures are the best way to glamorize an all-black outfit.
Luckily, her layered style is simple and reliable enough to replicate for any occasion. It may not completely cure the rainy-day blues, but it will at least revitalize your closet outlook.
