Kaia Gerber's travel attire begins and ends with 2024's It Sneakers
When it comes to trendy sneakers, Kaia Gerber is always ahead of the curve. Her off-duty fashion has always included comfortable shoes, and for a while, she chose her beloved Adidas Samba above all else. Yesterday, however, she was spotted at the airport wearing a pair of 2024 It sneakers, the Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66.
The Palm Royale actress wore the popular pair as she departed New York on Wednesday. She paired the black and white trainers with a calf-hugging black trench coat, hiding the top under an oversized outer layer. Gerber added a pop of color with a pair of bright blue wide-leg pants from Leset.
As for accessories, she showed off silver Apple AirPods Max headphones and hid most of her face with black sunglasses. He also placed a travel Celine tote on top of his black away suitcase.
There's a reason Gerber's Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 has become a celebrity and TikTok favorite over the past year: first introduced in the 1960s, this retro Japanese design is beloved for its slim sole and signature stripes. These days, the shoe has become a stand-in for fans of the classic Adidas Samba silhouette.
Uma Thurman famously wore the yellow and black pair in the 2003 cult film Kill Bill, and since then the Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 has been spotted by many stylish A-listers in nearly every colorway the brand offers. Other celebrity fans of the sneaker include Bella Hadid, Haley Bieber, Suki Waterhouse, and Rita Ora.
Gerber has been showcasing a collection of Hypebeast-approved shoes in street style for the past several months. In addition to black and white, the 22-year-old also owns a pair of yellow shoes inspired by Kill Bill with red and blue stripes on white.
Kendall Jenner is another star who wears these popular sneakers and styled them in a modest outfit in January. While running errands in Los Angeles, she wore a pair of white Onitsuka sneakers along with a white T-shirt, blue jeans, and a brown oversized jacket.
These old-school trainers are best worn with effortless off-duty ensembles and relaxed silhouettes, from baggy denim to athleisure wear. (The official Onitsuka Tiger website no longer carries this sneaker, but you can still find them at other retailers. Scroll on over to purchase Kaia Gerber's Mexico 66.
