Kaia Gerber, spring coat with soccer shoes.
Kaia Gerber is the queen of casual dressing, and her off-duty modeling uniform is flawless; in 2021, she told Vogue UK that she is "not afraid to repeat outfits." This week, she proved that her fashion formula works every time.
Earlier this week, Gerber arrived at New York's JFK airport in a traveling outfit of 2024 It sneakers (Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66), wide pants, trench coat, sunglasses, and silver Apple AirPods Max headphones. Yesterday, she repeated this outfit equation as she walked around the neighborhood, but swapped in a few new items.
She chose the same outfit, but in a "different font," as she often says, an oversized coat in ink navy, black bootcut pants, and oval-framed glasses. The only repeat item was a silver AirPod Max, but the star of the show was her feet. Proving that soccer cleats aren't just for the field, Gerber strode the streets in a pair of as-yet-unreleased Nike x Bode sneakers from Bode's Fall 2024 collection.
Cool girls and models love to remix soccer shoes into their wardrobes, like the Adidas Samba. (Gerber owns a pair in black and white). With Gerber at the helm, sporty styles are becoming a trend. Dua Lipa also wears team jerseys and athletic shoes on her off days. In street style during Fashion Month, editors and stylists are also endorsing the cleat trend, according to Vogue magazine.
This week is not the first time Gerber has turned to the sporty transitional weather staple. Over the past few months, various versions of this classic look have dominated her street style shots. Long black, brown, and beige jackets; the aforementioned Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 in red-white-blue and yellow-black; samba; oval sunglasses by Khaite and Thistles; big silver headphones by Apple and Beats by Dre.
Finally, the sun begins to shine again, and as the weather warms, so does Gerber's wardrobe. Tennis skirts, leggings, bike shorts, cropped sweatshirts, and sports bras for tops. Perhaps soccer shoes will join Gerber's year-round wardrobe.
