Zendaya once again expresses the meaning of "chic" in a checkered Louis Vuitton mini dress.

"Chic" is a word fashion editors would do well to avoid. It is so commonly used that it has almost lost its meaning. Only Zendaya, who arrived in Paris for the Challengers press, was able to revive the French word that essentially describes everything stylish and elegant.

The 27-year-old actress and fashion obsessive showed up at the Latin American Hall in Paris on Saturday, April 6, wearing a modish checked mini-dress styled by Lo Roach. Unlike the Challengers' outfits on the Sydney tour, her mini dress limited the sporty elements to a candy apple green hue reminiscent of a tennis court.

Zendaya paired her thigh-length, long-sleeved court dress with a white ribboned headband and pointed-toe Louboutin pumps. (The shoes will be revealed soon: Roach showed an Instagram video of a pile of Louboutin heels in Zendaya's dressing room.) Delicate items from Bulgari rounded out the look.

Lo Roach took to Instagram to share a behind-the-scenes video of Zendaya's photocall, revealing credits as well. Her look was taken from Louis Vuitton's Spring/Summer 2013 collection designed by former creative director Marc Jacobs. Zendaya's 60s styling was true to her dress that appeared on the runway just over a decade ago.

Many of the archived pieces from the runway collection, including Zendaya's look, featured the oversized "dannier" checkerboard print familiar from Louis Vuitton's Speedy bags and luggage. The appearance of this motif on the runway was a moment in fashion history: this was the first Vuitton runway collection to refrain from printing or embellishing the iconic LV logo. Instead, the Damier pattern became the Maison's signature," the show notes of the time read.

As is typical of Zendaya, one look was not enough on the first day of press in Paris. A few hours later, she changed into a matching set of silky chartreuse. The blouse had cargo pockets and satin detailing on the pant legs, accented with metallic platform heels. These tennis green separates are from Marc Jacobs' Spring/Summer 1999 collection for Louis Vuitton. (11]

On Instagram, Roach released a video of Zendaya wearing the set in front of camera flashes and an archival video of her walking the runway. It was initially presented along with a coordinating moto helmet and a leather bag belted around her waist on the catwalk.

Zendaya kicked off the press tour for "Challengers" with an outfit that literally incorporated "method dressing," or red carpet dressing that referenced her character's wardrobe. At the Sydney premiere, she appeared in a sequined Loewe tennis dress with a trompe l'oeil effect, in which the players' shadows appeared to be serving the ball. At professional matches and press conferences, she also wears casual tennis-core outfits from sportswear brands such as Kayway and luxurious parkas from the likes of Louis Vuitton.

The two fresh looks in Paris show that the Challengers' tennis aesthetic is broader than pleated skirts and polo shirts. Fans have only seen the start of it.
