Zendaya kicks off "Challengers" fashion tour with two tennis looks
Zendaya is always committed to her roles, both on screen and on the red carpet. Next month, she will appear in Luca Guadagnino's new tennis film "Challengers," and she has already doubled down on her fashion with the film in mind.
The actress wore a sparkling custom-made green Loewe gown with matching pointed-toe heels and diamond earrings to the premiere of "Challengers" in Sydney, Australia, last night. Her dress was by longtime stylist Lo Roach, who probably commissioned Loewe for a special reason: Loewe's Creative Director Jonathan Anderson, who also designed the costumes for Challengers. [Jonathan Anderson, creative director of the maison, also designed the costumes for "Challengers. If you look closely, the droplets are in the shape of the silhouette of a tennis player preparing to serve. In one hand he holds a racket. The other hand is throwing a tennis ball into the air, which lands in the form of a shiny black, green, and silver sphere around Zendaya's rib cage.
Roach often dresses Zendaya in Loewe clothing. The Spanish "cool-girl" upper-mid-range luxury brand is a perfect fit for the princess of the fashion world. The long lines, plunging necks, and dramatic leg slits of the premier dresses are also classic business card alternatives for Zendaya.
Before appearing on the carpet, director Roach styled Zendaya in a relaxed, preppy, tennis-style outfit. She wore striped blue and white shorts and a loose-fitting, half-tucked blue button-down by Elisabetta Franchi. She dressed it up with Bulgari jewelry and Christian Louboutin stark white pinwheels.
"Dressing the part" is a familiar strategy for Roach and Zendaya. Last month, the pair gave Zendaya's style a sci-fi twist, with the actress promoting "Dune: Part 2," in which she wore vintage Mugler's like C-3PO in a futuristic, sculptural Alaia outfit.
They are not the only ones to go all out with movie references on the red carpet: last summer, the method dressing trend peaked when Margot Robbie wore girly pink for the movie "Barbie."
