Haley Bieber Signs Off on Bloomers Trend Instead of Real Pants

It's been a week of lace lingerie for Haley Bieber. Following the release of Victoria's Secret's bridal line campaign, Bieber is once again breaking out the dainty underwear. This time, she is advocating the frilly bloomers trend as an alternative to actual pants.

Bieber endorsed long, fluffy underwear on his Instagram carousel on Thursday. The Road founder was spotted lounging outdoors in a stark white loungewear while flaunting Tiffany gold accessories. [Unless you're keeping an eye on Bieber, it's not every day you see her styling $20,000+ in jewelry in the most casual way. She showed off her new gift in a drab white T-shirt, tied at the waist and shortened in length. She also wore a red Negroni baseball cap from American Needle, which added a pop of color to her all-white outfit.

Bieber paired his white T-shirt with an unexpected silhouette. Instead of the occasional pair of blue jeans or her usual hot pants, she opted for a pair of long white bloomers by Simone Rocha. These flared, eyelet lace designer bottoms with drawstrings at the hips fit snugly around her shins.

Bieber's throwback style has an interesting history: bloomers first appeared as a wardrobe staple in the mid-1800s, as a comfortable alternative to the heavy, constricting silhouettes women often wore. The airy undergarments were usually layered under dresses to increase mobility for participating in everyday activities

and were often worn with a blouson or a blazer.

In recent years, designers such as Rocha have reexamined the silhouette in disruptive and surprising ways. Brands such as Miller Palais, Louis Vuitton, and Anna Sui have replaced more traditional shorts with collections featuring see-through, lace-hemmed innerwear. Bloomers are also surging in street style, at the intersection of girlie aesthetics and the rise of coquette style.

Bieber has not only incorporated the centuries-old style into her latest off-duty look, but has added to her long history of trend experimentation at both ends of the spectrum. In recent months, her favorite unexpected styling hack has been no pants, which she has worn to church on numerous occasions.

But the 27-year-old is not the only celebrity endorsing the bloomers style: in January, Julia Fox stepped out in bloomers, paired with a ribboned bralette and fingerless white lace gloves. She completed her girly ensemble with Simone Rocha plimsoll heels and the brand's pearl egg bag.

Now two celebrities have endorsed vintage underwear off the runway. Who's next?
