Meghan Markle Surprise Revisits Favorite Designer

Between her keynote panel at South by Southwest and the launch of her new lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard, Meghan Markle is booked and busy. Still, she's making time for a surprise appearance in one of her most beloved designer outfits, with a spring twist.

On Thursday, March 21, Markle and her husband, Prince Harry, were photographed giving a speech at the Kinsey Collection, an African-American art museum at Sophie Stadium in Los Angeles.

Markle was spotted standing in front of the stage, subtly elevating her all-black outfit with spring cues. Considering the new season, instead of going the traditional route of bright floral patterns and elaborate silhouettes, she opted for a black Carolina Herrera cape. The tiered dress was embroidered with white and green floral patterns throughout. (5]

Markle paired the floral cape with black pants and matching ballet pumps. Prince Harry was close behind her in a coordinating white shirt and black suit.

Journalist Shaun Robinson uploaded an image of the couple at the event to his Instagram Story, writing, "Thank you to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the Archwell Foundation for supporting the Kinsey Collection."

Carolina Herrera, the designer of last night's cape, has been a big part of Markle's wardrobe in recent years; in 2021, she was at the Salute to Freedom Gala at the Intrepid Museum in New York City, and in 2022 Pre-Fall Collection red Carolina Herrera ball gown. More recently, she chose Herrera for a surprise appearance at a fundraiser last fall (oversized herringbone cape) and for the premiere of Bob Marley: Also this March, she wore it for the premiere of Bob Marley: One Love (low-cut black ball gown)

Herrera also wore the same dress to the premiere of "Bob Marley: One Love.

The sighting of Meghan Markle's surprise spring outfit came after she reportedly made a series of "dignified" appearances to promote the American Riviera Orchard.

In a now-expired Instagram story filmed at her Montecito home, Markle picked flowers and worked in the kitchen, previewing the lifestyle brand's lineup. The forthcoming store will reportedly sell household items such as decanters and kitchen linens, as well as edible sweets such as jellies and jams.

Markle's all-black ensemble is a stark contrast to the look she wore earlier this month at South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas. On International Women's Day, she participated in the festival's keynote panel, "Breaking Barriers, Shaping Narratives": a keynote panel called "Breaking Barriers, Shaping Narratives. She joined Katie Couric, Erin Haynes, Brooke Shields, and Nancy Wang Yuen to discuss the representation of women in the media.

Her costume on stage was also monochromatic, but without the seasonal details of her recent cape. Rather than going head-to-toe in black, she wore a thin pinstriped beige button-down and matching maxi skirt from Italian brand Giuliva Heritage. She completed the look with Valentino pointed-toe mules.

One of the common characteristics of both recent outfits is that they are from brands founded and launched by women.
