Sydney Sweeney nods to Marilyn Monroe while wearing Angelina Jolie's 2004 Oscar gown.

Sydney Sweeney recreated the look of the archive from one of her It-Girl predecessors at the Vanity Fair Oscars Party last night. The Euphoria actress wore a silky, ivory Marc Boucher gown with a plunging halter neckline, just two decades after Angelina Jolie wore the exact same dress.

Sweeney and her stylist Molly Dickinson leaned on the reference by overlaying a custom・made diamond necklace made by Mesika, similar to Jolie's 2004 jewelry. The actress held her matching sash in exactly the same position as the 90s icon, wrapped loosely around her wrist and draped behind her curves.

The elegant backless number is true to Sweeney's classic feminine silhouette brand, adding a level of sophistication.

Dickinson thanked Bouwer and Brand President Paul Margolin for the loan via Instagram and wrote, "Thank you Marc+@paulmargolin for letting us in your archive for this special moment."

Sydney Sweeney occupies a place in culture comparable to the space that Jolie once held, so it makes sense that she and Dickinson decided to rethink one of the movie star's vintage looks.

And in Sweeney, the costume recalls another American icon, Marilyn Monroe, the founder of the Jolly and Sweeney bomb category. In addition to the Monroe effect created by the low-cut white gown, there was Sweeney's new hairstyle, romantic Bob.

Earlier on the official Academy Awards red carpet, Jennifer Lawrence wore a strapless black and white polka dot gown from the Spring 2024 collection of Christian Dior Haute Couture, matching wrap, Swarovski diamond necklace, corset. Paired with a dinate tennis bracelet, it exuded another kind of old Hollywood. Lawrence later arrived at the after party wearing a Givenchy dress archived from John Galliano's Fall/Winter 1996 collection.

Other vintage getups from the night included Margot Robbie's 90s Muggler Corset at the after party, and Carrie Mulligan's red carpet recreating Balenciaga designs from 1951.
