Everlane is participating in the designer collaboration game.

Everlane has been shorthand for high essentials, including light crew neck T-shirts, relaxed linen pants, and cloud-like soft Alpaca knit sweaters for over a decade. But with its first design collaboration, the label is ready to flip the script.

Everlane partnered with London-based independent label Marques'Almeida for an 18-piece collection. Available now online, it is filled with carefree shapes and eco-friendly materials that put Everlane on the map - Spring colors and a

lineup of just adventurous design partners covers all the bases of a basic spring wardrobe with a refreshing twist. Using surplus fabrics from past collections, Everlane and Marques'Almeida poured a tangy red-orange and electro-acid green wash over a mesh cardigan and a thicker, transitional weather-fitting turtleneck. The oversize denim jacket comes with 3 wash stripe patchwork to match the cargo mini skirt. Tie-dye is everywhere, from satin button-up shirts to slip dress coordination with thigh-high slits, to barrel-leg utility pants.

Mathilde Mader, the creative director of Everlane, tells marie Claire that she had followed Marques'Almeida's avant-garde designs for years before pursuing a partnership. In hindsight, they almost seemed destined to cross the road. Head of both Mader and Marques'Almeida Marta Marques and Paulo Almeida studied under the same professor at the Central Saint Martins, although at different times.

Both labels use surplus fabrics and trying to reduce the environmental impact has created more points of mutual interest. But most of the time, Mader was intrigued by the idea of partnering with another relatively small label. "To be honest, for most people, it was very unexpected," she says. "There's a significant amount of people in the company and they may not have actually heard of it," he said. It was fun: they're not huge, but so is Everlane."

The creative director expects long-time fans to enjoy the Technicolor spin Marques'Almeida brought to Everlane's much-loved basics. If they want more, this partnership is probably a 1-time deal.

Maider tells Marie Claire that the door is wide open for more capsules with other brands, like the full collection Guang "I think it's a very healthy place to be in the brand that you're willing to have those conversations," she says. It will be. It's not just about finding new pieces to round out their closets: "It's also not kind of about making friends.""Although the injection of fresh wardrobe is definitely a plus.

The Everlane x Marques Almeida collection is now available for shopping at Everlane.
