Based on Min Seong-ah's webtoon "The Girl Downstairs" and directed by Lee Jung-hyo (Crash Landing on You), the nine-episode Netflix series The film depicts a romance between two people from very different worlds who are brought together by sheer coincidence. At the height of her career, Lee Doona (former K-pop singer-turned-actress Bae Suji) makes the surprising decision to leave the girl group Dream Sweet and spend her time hiding out in a shared house in the student district. There she meets Lee Won-jun, a 20-year-old student who lives upstairs.

After an awkward first meeting that results in a misunderstanding, Doo-na soon begins to beg Won-jung to eat with her and play with her more. The two eventually grow closer, and amidst the various obstacles they face, they must decide whether or not to act on their attraction to each other. Meanwhile, Doo-na has to decide whether she will continue as an entertainer or live in the public eye, while Won-jung works hard to get a stable job and overcome her feelings for an old lover who shows up at her college. Duna was a star member of Dream Sweet, but left the group without warning. She now lives on the first floor of a shared house and spends her days alone, suffering from the aftereffects of the bullying and harassment she suffered online during her star days. Bae Suzy, better known as Suzy, debuted as a member of the Chinese-Korean girl group Miss A in 2010 and was the group's lead singer until their breakup in 2017.She got her start as an actress in the 2011 Idol series Dream High, followed by Big," "While You Were Sleeping," "Vagabond," "Anna," and other dramas, for which she won Best Actress at the second annual Blue Dragon Series Awards. Next year, she will reunite with Kim Woo-bin, with whom she co-starred in "Unbridled Love," in a new drama by Kim Eun-sook, the writer of "Glory."

At the beginning of "Doona," Won Joon moves into a shared house to live near his school after commuting for a year from his childhood home. He graduates and decides to get a steady job as the breadwinner for his family, which also includes his sick sister. As he settles in, he can't help but think that his downstairs neighbor looks a lot like his best friend's favorite singer.

Yang Se-jeong briefly worked as a fashion model before enrolling at the Korea National University of Arts in 2012; he debuted in the popular drama "Romantic Teacher" in 2016 and won the Best New Actor Award at the Baeksang Arts Awards for his performance in the 2017 romance drama "Temperature of Love." His other credits include "Saimdang," "Diary of Light," "Duel," "Thirty and Seventeen," and "My Homeland: Dr. Romantic Season 2."

Jin-joo (pictured above right) and Won-jung met in their hometown when they were in high school, but there is a mysterious connection between them. The two reunite at school and continue their friendship while settling old feelings.

Shin Ha-young began her career as a model while studying art at Ewha Womans University and the School of Visual Arts in New York City.She made her debut in the 2019 drama Doctor Prisoner and has appeared in Chocolate, Mouse, Let's Break Up Now, and Good Detective Season 2, among others. She also recently appeared in last year's hit "Special Mission Lawyer Wu," in which she played his wife in the second episode.

Ila was born the same night as Wonjun, at the same hospital. While Wonjun is quiet and calm, Ila is capricious, teasing and tormenting Wonjun since childhood. Her family emigrated to South America when she was very young, so Wonjun is shocked when he runs into her one day at school.

Park Sewan made her acting debut in 2016, playing a small role as a ghost in the hit global drama Goblin. She has since appeared in School 2017, I Am Not a Robot, Just Dance, Korean Survival, Never Twice, and Final Weapon Alice. "Doona." is her second Netflix drama.
