The Prince & Princess of Wales' subtle message on clothing in Boston this week.

The Prince and Princess of Wales touched down in Boston yesterday for their first U.S. tour since 2014. On Wednesday afternoon, the couple stepped off the plane amid news that Prince William's goddaughter, Susan Hussey, had resigned her longtime role as maid of honor at Buckingham Palace amid disturbing accusations of racism. The following day, Thursday, the trailer for the Netflix documentary "Harry & Meghan," which will feature Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, was released, drawing more attention away from the environmental work Prince William and Catherine were doing in Boston.

And while the Palace has recently stated that it wants to focus less on Catherine's attire and more on her work (which is understandable), she and her husband William were sending a clear message through their choice of attire during the first two days of their US tour. [Princess Catherine wore an Alexander McQueen blazer over a turtleneck, paired with ankle-length pants. (Catherine also wore this same suit this year in a bubblegum pink version in June and an all-white version in August.) William chose a blue tie to match his suit.

At Boston City Hall, the first stop on the tour, William gave a speech along with Boston Mayor Michelle Wu and incoming Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey. Prince William wore a tie to match Princess Catherine's Burberry tartan check dress and Alexander McQueen coat. Catherine wore a vintage blue Chanel jacket, while William coordinated a blue button-down.

And on Thursday, at Greentown Lab in Somerville, MA and Roca near Chelsea, a new coordinating color appeared: maroon this time, with Princess Catherine wearing a burgundy Laurent Mouret suit and a pink Pussybow blouse.

So far, the only color-coordinated breakdown in the visit occurred at their third and final engagement on Thursday at Boston Harbor. To combat the chilly temperatures, the Welsh couple dressed in parallel looks, with long coats and scarves crossed in the same way. Catherine's double-breasted Alexander McQueen trench coat was dark brown, with an orange Gabriella Hearst knit turtleneck dress underneath; William wore a dark blue coat, blue scarf, and navy pants. Princess Catherine wore gloves, but William did not, despite the freezing temperatures. Boston Harbor Now CEO Kathy Abbott suggested William wear hand warmers, but William laughed and declined, saying, "I don't want to be rude. I'll just put [his hands] in my pocket. Catherine pointed to her brown gloves and seemed pleased that he chose to wear them.

Even as drama surrounded them, the couple declared, "We support each other."
