Prince Charles has banned this dish from all royal palaces.

It will be a busy week at Buckingham Palace as King Charles and Queen Camilla welcome South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and Dr. and Mrs. Tsepo Motsepe to the UK to host the new king's first state visit. On Tuesday, Tiara will make an appearance as the palace hosts a state dinner in honor of King Charles and Queen Camilla, but according to The Sun, there is one dish that will definitely not be on the menu for the occasion.

Not only will foie gras not appear this week, but it will not appear as long as Charles is king. A letter from the palace to animal rights activists confirms that foie gras is banned in all royal palaces, including Buckingham Palace. (Foie gras is made from duck or goose liver.)

"The monarch has long opposed the food, and many campaigners say the process of producing the product is cruel," the Sun reports. Foie gras is made from livers abnormally enlarged by a disease called hepatolipidosis.

Incredibly, this is the first time a South African delegation has paid a state visit to the British royal family since former US President Donald Trump visited the UK in 2019. (Due to the pandemic, no state visits have taken place since then.) The South African state visit was scheduled before Queen Elizabeth's death on September 8, and will be the first that Charles will host in his own right as monarch.

In addition to Prince Charles and Camilla, the new crown prince and princess, William and Catherine, will play a key role in entertaining South Africa's first couple this week, "People" reports.
