Dominic West played Prince Charles on "The Crown" without consulting Prince Harry.

"I didn't think it was appropriate to call him and ask for tips," he told Entertainment Tonight with a laugh at the premiere of the new season in London this week.

"I haven't spoken to him in years. I walked to the South Pole with a lot of wounded soldiers, so I know him pretty well."

West is referring here to his participation in the Walking With The Wounded South Pole Allied Challenge with the royal family in 2013.

West, an ambassador for the Prince's Trust, a foundation established by King Charles, revealed to the Trust that he plays Charles in the Netflix show, but he did not have to give up his role in the organization.

"I just thought I'd let Prince Trust know that I'm going to be on the show. And I thought they had a right to know about it. So that was it," he explained. 'I can't resign. It's not a real job."

The royal family and their entourage were less than thrilled that Season 5 would be released, with one of the queen's friends saying, "I am horrified by what is happening on Netflix and how they are slandering the royal family. It is vicious. It's as if they are trying to destroy the royal family."

Public figures such as Dame Judi Dench and former Prime Minister John Major have condemned the show's methods, but the cast and crew have staunchly defended the show, which is currently in theaters.
