Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis are children of the royal family, but first and foremost they are children, and their parents, Prince William and Princess Kate, want to ensure that they have as normal a childhood as possible.

To that end, the Welsh couple will apparently begin by keeping the atmosphere in their home less stern and more comfortable. [When William and Kate's children were young and the family was shuttling between Anmer Hall in Norfolk and Kensington Palace, William told the staff that he didn't want them to wear suits when they were in the office," says Valentine Lowe in her new book, Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind the Crown (opens in new tab) (via Express).

One housekeeper told Lowe, "He wants it casual. He doesn't want to be formal because the kids run around the office." [If he has an important meeting or goes to Buckingham Palace, of course he wears a suit."

Law writes that for the Prince of Wales, then Duke of Cambridge, "it did not matter what he wore."

He told his staff, "This is where my family lives," implying that he would not normally wear a suit at his parents' home.

William and Kate refer to Princess Diana when it comes to parenting: the late Princess Diana tried to keep things similarly casual and "normal" when Princes William and Harry were small.

For example, she would let her sons take out pizza, burgers, and fried chicken on Saturday nights, former royal chef Darren McGrady once recalled.

Nowadays, the Welsh children sometimes treat themselves to a good burger and fries, too.
