The experience of marrying into the royal family, especially a woman, is a unique one that only a handful of people understand.

According to royal expert Angela Levin in her new book on Queen Camilla, the then Duchess of Cornwall tried to give Meghan Markle a "warm" welcome when she married into the royal family, but it fell "flat" - the Duchess of Sussex was unresponsive to Camilla's advice, Levin writes.

In "Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall: A Royal Survivor" (opens in new tab), Levin quotes a royal source as saying, "She [Camilla] doesn't want to see anyone struggling and has a soft spot for Meghan." (Camilla, of course, knows what it is like to face public and media backlash because of her relationship with the current King Charles III.)

Camilla apparently told Meghan that the Duchess of Sussex seemed "bored" about her life and the Royal Family's welcoming approach, and that when Meghan carved out her own position within The Firm (the working core designation of the Royal Family), "she He noted that she seemed to "prefer to go her own way.

Levin wrote that Princess Meghan's reputation within The Firm was initially high, with Camilla recognizing her as a "hard worker." Prince Charles also "enjoyed" his association with Princess Meghan, Levin writes. (In case you forgot, Princess Meghan was an actress on the hit show Suits before marrying Harry.) Charles emotionally walked his new daughter-in-law down the aisle at St. George's Chapel.

Clearly much has happened since then, and "Marie Claire" reported yesterday that Meghan sought a one-on-one meeting with Charles last week before leaving for the United States, where her children with Harry, Archie and Lilibet, are waiting to return from England and the Queen's funeral The report said. It is unclear whether that meeting took place or what the current status of Camilla and Meghan's relationship is.
