Read MorePrince Harry and Meghan Markle have made their first official return to the UK since their platinum jubilee in June (according to the Mirror). And speaking of Her Majesty the Queen, the Independent reports that the Queen does not want to be "on her guard" at all times while waiting for the "next nuclear bomb" to be dropped, that it remains unclear (but seems unlikely) whether the Sussexes will see her during this trip, and that the Queen is at her Scottish villa, Val She is reported to be staying at Moral.
Harry and Meghan's recent visit to the UK came shortly after Meghan said in an interview with The Cut magazine that she and Harry were "upsetting the dynamic of the hierarchy" by "just being there" before they retire from active roles in the royal family in January 2020. In a recent article (opens in new tab), Roya Nikka, royal editor of The Sunday Times, quoted a royal source as saying that what Harry and Meghan are doing "cannot be equated with the values of a queen who has never encouraged discussing deeply personal family relationships in public." He is quoted as saying. (In addition to her interview in The Cut, Meghan's new podcast, Archetypes, offers a weekly look at parts of her life. This, combined with Harry's forthcoming memoir and the couple's upcoming Netflix documentary, will bring more focus than ever on the private lives of members of the royal family.)
The Sunday Times also quoted a source who said he knows the Queen well. According to that source, Her Majesty the Queen "does not want to be constantly on edge, waiting to see what the next nuclear bomb will be. (When Harry and Meghan stepped down from their roles as active royalty, they promised to "continue to uphold Her Majesty's values in everything we do")
.
One royal source told The Sunday Times that the couple's "star power" necessitated their ties to the royal family and that "the spark is family discord." Another source said, "Ultimately, they are bashing the institution that got them to where they are. That strategy cannot last."
Tomorrow, Harry and Meghan will head to Manchester for the One Young World Summit. On Tuesday, the couple will fly to Düsseldorf, Germany, to attend the opening of the Invictus Games 2023. Harry will attend his first press conference since leaving royal life, where he will give a speech but will not take questions from reporters. Finally, on Thursday, Harry will attend the WellChild Awards in London, where he will give a speech.
