Kendall Jenner Tweets About Bush Fire Crisis in Australia, Internet Looks Disgruntled

Australia is in the midst of a crisis. The current wildfire season is one of the most destructive in Australian history: according to the New York Times (opens in new tab), at least 24 people have died and thousands have been evacuated from their homes. But when Kendall Jenner responded to the wildfires (opens in new tab) on Twitter, her followers were not impressed.

Jenner quoted Senator Bernie Sanders' tweet, calling for climate action and a Green New Deal in the face of raging fires. She used an emoji for that: two stern faces and two broken hearts.

Her response frustrated some on Twitter who wanted more than emojis from the supermodel. You have the money and the platform," one social media user wrote (opens in new tab). Others pointed out how Jenner's own lifestyle, and that of other super-rich celebrities, contributes to the climate crisis. One Twitter user shared a screenshot of Jenner's November Instagram story (opens in new tab), in which Jenner revealed that her sister Kylie picked her up on vacation in a private jet (opens in new tab).

Jenner, of course, may have donated to organizations fighting wildfires, or she may have kept her donation quiet. If you wish to help and have some money to spare, CNN has a list of places to donate (opens in new tab). For example, the Australian Red Cross (open in new tab) and St. Vincent de Paul Society Australia (open in new tab) are helping those displaced from their homes. The New South Wales Regional Fire Service (open in new tab) has established a fund for the families of firefighters killed in the line of duty, and wildlife rescue charity WIRES (open in new tab) is holding an emergency fundraiser.
