Prince Harry doesn't want Archie to grow up "shackled" by royal obligations.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's (open in new tab) decision to step down from their royal executive roles came as no surprise to many close to the couple.

Legendary primatologist Jane Goodall said she was "not surprised" by the move during a recent appearance on BBC Radio 4's Today Program, according to The Sun (opens in new tab).

"I know Prince Harry feels really constrained and he really wants little Archie to grow up away from the glamorous royal family," Goodall said of the decision.

Goodall was one of the celebrities featured in British Vogue (opens in new tab) (opens in new tab), which Meghan guest edited last year. The theme of that issue was "The Power of Change."

Even though Princess Meghan was the guest editor of that issue (opens in new tab), it was Harry who actually interviewed Goodall for the magazine.

"Princess Meghan wanted to interview me, but he said, 'No, I'm going to interview Jane,'" Goodall joked in an interview with BBC Radio 4.

Harry and Goodall clearly hit it off in an interview that took place when she visited the couple at their home, Frogmore Cottage in Windsor. For example, during their discussion, Harry revealed his decision with Meghan to have no more than two children for environmental reasons (opens in new tab). Goodall hinted that the topic of Archie and the constraints of royal life may have come up during that conversation.

She was vague for the most part, but the renowned scientist did not hold back when it came to praising Harry as a person and as an interviewer.

"I think he's a wonderful, wonderful person, and we had a great interview," she exclaimed.
