Taylor Swift wears a ring on that finger in "Miss Americana"

February 3 update: Taylor Swift is not actually engaged. Her engagement finger ring, which fans spotted in her new Miss Americana documentary, is shaped like a cat. When the documentary first premiered, it was difficult to discern what exactly the ring looked like.

Original story from January 31: Wait, what? Some sharp-eyed Taylor Swift fans noticed that in her documentary "Miss Americana," there is footage of her talking backstage with a very large, sparkly ring on the ring finger of her left hand. Swift's boyfriend, Joe Alwyn, also appears in the documentary, and Swift sweetly tells him she loves him (opens in new tab). Will they head down the aisle?

As first discovered by InStyle, in the scene in question Swift talks about not supporting Marsha Blackburn, a Republican senator from Tennessee. Surrounded by family members (including her mother, who recently announced her cancer) (opens in new tab), Swift explains, "I want to be on the right side of history." When you look at the gesture of her hand, you can absolutely see a very shiny and also huge bling on that finger.

It's a little hard to see in these stills, and perhaps it would be easier to see in motion, but is it a pear-shaped stone, as reported? True story: it could just be the ring she is wearing.

Swift has been keeping a low profile lately with her mother, but she has released new music after her hiatus. Swift fans are pleased that she has become more outgoing and speculate that certain lyrics on her seventh album, Lover (released last August), may be hinting at an engagement. She loves to provide Easter eggs (open in new tab) in her songs, videos, and social media posts. So is this the biggest Easter egg of all?
