Turns out Gwyneth Paltrow can make a joke about her vagina and still make it pay. Gwyneth Paltrow sat down with Jimmy Kimmel on Monday, February 24, to share the story behind her "This Smells Like My Vagina" candle, which debuted earlier this year and went viral.

Paltrow revealed that the unique scent was created when she was working with Douglas Little, the perfumer behind the Heretic Parfum (open in new tab) label.

"One day we were sniffing different scents, and I was joking around, and I sniffed one and jokingly said, 'I'm not sure I'm going to do it. 'But then I thought, wouldn't it be cool if someone actually dared to do that? I thought, what a punk rock feminist statement to put that on the table."

Little made the cheekily named candle a reality. Paltrow thought it was a joke at first."

The late-night host asked if Goop's team had verified the scent, but Paltrow assured him that the candle would not make your house smell like a gynecologist's office.

"It smells good, it smells a little masculine, really," Kimmel said, to which the entrepreneur replied, "It's not really supposed to smell like a vagina." I think a lot of women have grown up being shy or embarrassed about this part of their bodies.

Goop's website (opens in new tab) explains that it contains notes of "geranium, citrus bergamot, and cedar absolute juxtaposed with damask rose and ambrette seeds" that "evoke fantasy, seduction, and refined warmth " and suggests that it is "a kind of "warmth.

The $75 home decor item sold out instantly upon its launch (thanks in part to Elton John's bulk purchase of the candles). However, Paltrow announced on Monday that it had restocked. So run, don't walk, and don't expect a ball-scented male version of the candle.
