If you survived the Stephanie Meyer website crash of 2020, you already know this news: Twilight Mania is back. Team Edward reigns supreme. Midnight Sun is coming.

Last week, Twilight fans collectively lost their minds trying to decipher the countdown timer displayed on Stephanie Meyer's website. Twilight fans urged via Twitter for someone to get off this broken server so they could report the news, but no such volunteers showed up. Thankfully, Meyer appeared on Good Morning America a short time later and announced what everyone already suspected: after 12 years, Midnight Sun will finally be released in August.

"I am so excited to finally, finally announce the release of 'Midnight Sun' on August 4," Meier told GMA. 'It's a crazy time and I wasn't sure if it was the right time to release this book. I didn't think it was fair to make you wait any longer. I apologize for the timing. I hope this book will serve as a distraction from the real world. I am so excited to finally share it with you."

The book, with a rather disturbing crushed pomegranate on the cover, will arrive on August 4.

Given the book's long road to the shelves, it is a testament to the power of Twilight fever that the book has maintained such interest. Midnight Sun, a prequel to the Twilight series, is a reworking of the first novel, told from the point of view of Edward Cullen rather than Bella Swan; in 2008, Meyer released a partial draft of the first chapter of the story, but when a copy of the manuscript was leaked online, she became discouraged and published canceled her plans. She then posted a partial draft (opens in new tab) but made no commitment to complete the project.

"While I was procrastinating the full-scale editing process (I am always most creative when I am procrastinating), I began to wonder how the first chapter of Twilight would read if written from Edward's perspective. Because that first chapter has so much more on Edward's side than Bella's," she writes on her website (opens in new tab).

But even after the release of The Host and The Chemist, Midnight Sun was never released. Fans were beginning to lose hope.

But since 2020 seemed to be just the harbinger of the chaotic energy needed for a "Twilight" reboot, we are ready with credit cards in hand to pre-order another sparkling vampire love story.
