Meghan Markle was apparently given the title of Dr. Sussex by a government website.

Meghan Markle (opens in new tab) got a temporary new title this week when a government website listed her as "Dr. Duchess of Sussex."

The Sun (opens in new tab) reported that the issue apparently arose when Meghan and her husband Prince Harry (opens in new tab) filed the necessary paperwork to officially close the Royal Sussex Foundation. Royal sources believe the error stemmed from a filing error by Companies House staff, although according to The Sun, Meghan was listed on the business website as "HRH The Duchess of Sussex (opens in new tab)." Inexplicably, the title was updated to "Dr The Duchess of Sussex." This error was corrected on Friday.

"We are currently investigating this matter," a Companies House spokesperson said.

The Sun spoke to several royal officials about Meghan's "doctor" (open in new tab) title, all of whom agreed that it was a mistake, as Meghan is not a doctor in any sense.

"The Duchess is definitely not a doctor," said one royal official.

"I have to admit I did a double-take when I saw that Princess Meghan was a doctor," added another official.

"She's been called a lot of different things, but I'd never heard her called Dr. Meghan."

So: Meghan Markle (open in new tab) is not, sadly, secretly a doctor. But if it turned out that she had secretly earned a doctorate or attended medical school, we would have totally believed it.
