British royal reprimands Meghan Markle for wearing a necklace with Harry's initials.

Well, this is an incredibly unflattering story. According to royal correspondents Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, Meghan Markle was criticized by royal aides for wearing a necklace with their initials on it a few months after she announced her relationship with Prince Harry (opens in new tab). Scobie and Durand report in their new book, Finding Freedom, excerpted from People (opens in new tab).

The necklace, which you can see Meghan wearing here (opens in new tab), is truly minuscule and must have required some pretty intense zooming for the paparazzi to find it in the first place. Of course, that's not the point. Can't a woman in love wear a pretty necklace in peace?

The incident upset Princess Meghan, Scobie and Durand say in their book. When contacted by a senior aide at Kensington Palace, Meghan "said little during the call, choosing instead to simply listen to the consultation," they write. 'After hanging up, however, she became frustrated and emotional. But after hanging up, she became frustrated and emotional."

"I knew the aide had good intentions, but the unreal experience of having someone from her boyfriend's office telling her what accessories to wear and what not to smile at the photographer was too much.

Meghan then called a friend and said They make it sound like I'm wrong about these pictures and that I'm encouraging them and that maybe I'm not sending the right message by even acknowledging the camera. I don't know what to say. It was only yesterday that people on the Internet were saying that I looked miserable in the pictures because I was trying to ignore [the photographer]." [According to Scobie and Durand, the future Duchess of Sussex "felt damned if she did and damned if she didn't. And seriously, who could blame her?
