Bella Hadid Kicks Out NYPD for Not Wearing Masks

ACAB stands for "All Cops Annoy Bella?"

Supermodel Hadid took to Instagram last night to share a photo from New York City. Dressed head-to-toe in black, including a black face mask, Hadid posed in front of NYPD officers (opens in new tab) at City Hall. Not a single officer appeared to be wearing a face mask.

"WEAR A MASK," Hadid wrote above the photo, adding, "u guys look goofy."

In another photo, Hadid points a finger at them." Hi @nypd," she continued." The masks are for the safety of all of us, not just you guys... :)"

Hadid is not the first to complain that the NYPD ignored public health guidelines (opens in new tab) during the coronavirus outbreak. Both New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio have lobbied the NYPD to follow mask-wearing rules (opens in new tab); Black Lives Matter protesters have also accused the NYPD of being typically mask-free at public demonstrations (opens in new tab).

The NYPD's constant forgoing of face masks has even inspired a new project, NYPD Mask Watch (opens in new tab), which uses data science, photos, and video to get the names of officers not wearing masks in public.

"If we are asking everyone else to follow the rules, to keep their social distance, to wear something that covers their face to protect everyone, you should too," de Blasio said in June (open in new tab). He added, "I have discussed this with the NYPD police commissioner, and I look forward to improvements in this area."

"We have a lot of work to do.
