What I Wear on Repeat: My Lottie's "The Point" Flat Shoes

What I Wear on Repeat: My Lottie's "The Point" Flat Shoes

In this bi-weekly series, our editors will show you items that are versatile, chic, comfortable, and worn over and over again, whether it's a basic white T-shirt or an ultra-trendy jumpsuit. Get yourself (and your credit card) ready for guilt-free shopping.

My personal style is best described as "barely put together." I have a black sweater that doesn't show food stains, dark wash skinny jeans that go with everything, and a collared button-down shirt that shows I've tried, but everything I own is sober, earthy, and unlikely to wrinkle, tear, or stain. So when a friend gave me a pair of hot pink Rothy's pointed-toe flat shoes (opens in new tab), made from plastic bottles and famously worn by Meghan Markle (opens in new tab) and Emma Roberts, I ... I realized I was scared. I am not a "pretty hot pink shoes" kind of person. I am barely a "I can dress myself in the morning" kind of person. [But the moment I put on these shoes, I was transformed like Cinderella. Specifically, my work clothes (open in new tab) were transformed. The neutral colors in my wardrobe are like a scene-stealing pointed-toe flat designed to look better.

So of course I felt good in these flats. But as my mother reminds me surprisingly often, just because you feel good doesn't mean you are dressed appropriately for the occasion. (But whether I wore them to brunch, to the office, or to the dog park, I always got compliments: wow, those pink shoes are nice! (Those pink shoes are fabulous!" (Pointing to my own feet and exclaiming, "You and Lottie look so alike!" (Not once, not twice, did someone exclaim: "You and Lottie have the same shoes!) My mother, who is regularly horrified by my casual-wear obsession, considers my pink shoes a godsend

.

And not that I'm not happy with the compliments, but the reason I continue to wear these beautiful neon-colored shoes is because they are so comfortable. My flats started out as water bottles, but this material is hardly known for its comfort. The proof is in the pudding: even when I stopped going to the office in light of the COVID-19 restrictions, I continued to wear these shoes. In other words, Meghan Markle wore these shoes to the beach instead of flip-flops. (Open in new tab) Behold:

To the beach? Well, as the perfect lazy girl hack, these flat shoes are designed to be thrown in the washing machine and washed. (Word of advice to the wise: don't put them in the dryer. Thankfully, the shoes stretched again after a few wears, but learn from my mistake.)

At $145, these are more expensive than the average pair of flat shoes, but unlike the "dressy" or "casual" binaries that separate most, this is a shoe that can do both. I wore a black pair to a wedding hidden under a long dress (that's how comfortable they are) and paired them with pants for a post-wedding brunch the next day (that's how cute they are). I have The Point in pink, black, and navy, and unless it's freezing cold outside, you can find me wearing them:

As for my other fashion sense, I probably won't fill you with confidence, but that's okay. Buy me these flats and send me pictures of your non-neutral outfits. My mother will surely thank you.
