Comfortable to wear. Comfortable to wear. It's sure to flood your Instagram feed. This is the Outdoor Voices Exercise Dress (opens in new tab) and it is my official 2020 uniform. I first noticed this dress (yes, I named it) in a Target ad, thanks to my voyeur Alexa. Since I've been working from home, my dressing habits have completely changed and I've focused on buying comfortable, wearable, athleisure pieces I ordered one dress and was hooked the moment I put it on, and I've been wearing it ever since.

This item is the perfect blend of aesthetics and functionality, reminiscent of a streetwear version of tennis pants. They fit well enough to give me that compression feel I love in athleisure, but don't pinch the hems and turn my thighs into unwilling sausage links. There's an iPhone-sized pocket on one side, tucked under the skirt of the dress. And according to my own experience (and online reviews), the dress is pretty true to size. Even with my larger bust, the size S fit me perfectly (I'm a size 4 in most outfits).

Speaking of which, this dress is the only one in my wardrobe that I can wear without a bra. The stretchy lining is tight and elastic enough to support my breasts and thick enough to cover everything. However, if you are doing strenuous or bouncy workouts (such as burpees or dance cardio), a sports bra (opens in a new tab) underneath will give you more support and look prettier.

I own dresses in three different colors (sage, lavender, and a black and white polka dot number). I rarely don't wear one of them. Isaac Karpito's Instagram Live (opens in new tab) Sweating in class? Exercise dress. Riding a City Bike to the West Village? Exercise Dress. Hinge date in Tompkins Square Park? Get it? Pair it with thick socks and layer it under a sporty crew neck or slouchy cashmere sweater.

Anyway, it seems I'm not alone in my enthusiasm for this stretchy little dress. Rave reviews abound on the Internet, I've convinced numerous friends, Instagram followers, and strangers on the street to buy it, and I've heard nothing but ringing recommendations ever since. (One friend bought the electric yellow, wore it on a hike, and raved, "I'm fucking in this dress.") Indeed it is.
