Regina King Wears Breanna Taylor Shirt at Emmy Awards
There will be no red carpet at the 2020 Emmys. Just ask Regina King. On tonight's virtual red carpet, she wore a magenta Schiaparelli suit and a "Say Her Name" T-shirt with an image of Breanna Taylor (opens in new tab). Six months after Taylor was shot eight times and killed by police officers who broke into her apartment in the middle of the night, no one has yet been charged.
This is not the first time King has worn the shirt. She wore the shirt last month in an Instagram post (opens in new tab) that read, "150 days after Breanna Taylor was murdered in her sleep by Jonathan Mattingly, Brett Hankison, and Myles Cosgrove, her killers have not been indicted. Too often, black women killed by police violence are forgotten. Let's speak out loud and continue to demand justice for Breanna and her family and say her name.
The t-shirts are by Phenomenal in partnership with the Briona Taylor Foundation and can be purchased here. (opens in new tab) All proceeds from the shirt will go to the foundation.
The Oscar-winning actress is nominated tonight for Best Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for her role as Angela Aber in HBO's "Sister Night"; she played Sister Night in HBO's "Watchmen;"
She was nominated for Best Actress in a Motion Picture for her role in "The HBO Show. Last October, King gave an interview to Marie Claire (opens in new tab) about landing the lead role in the hit series, saying, "Sister waited until I was almost 50 to be a superhero. That's what I always wanted to do: be a woman who physically kicks ass."
Here's hoping she wins tonight!
