Zendaya wins her first Emmy Award, and the internet goes wild.
Zendaya became the youngest person ever to win an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series; the 24-year-old won for her role as Lou in HBO's "Euphoria." This is the first time she has been nominated for an Emmy, and naturally, it has been a national sensation.
Zendaya, wearing a gorgeous black and white dress (opens in new tab), was in tears as she accepted her award. Zendaya is not only the youngest person ever to win in the category, but also the first black actor to win this trophy since Viola Davis won it in 2015 for How to Get Away with Murder, although the previous titleholder was then 26-year-old Jodie Comer, who set this record last year won the award.
"I know it feels like a really weird time to be celebrating," Zendaya said upon receiving the award. 'But I want to say that there is hope for these young people. I know that our TV shows don't always feel like such a great example of that, but there is hope for young people. And I just want to say to my colleagues who are working on the streets, I hope that they can do the same.
If you've ever wondered why Twitter is a frenzy, now you understand. Here are a few of my favorites:
Congratulations, Zendaya!
