Gabrielle Union's "Insecure" Rap Was the Funniest Moment at the Emmys
Unfortunately, "Insecure" failed to win an Emmy Sunday night, losing in the outstanding comedy series category to "Schitt's Creek," with actors Issa Ray and Yvonne Orji losing to "Schitt's Creek's" Catherine O'Hara and Annie Murphy, respectively The show is perhaps the most successful of its kind. But the show won perhaps the greatest award of all: it was Gabrielle Union's rap performance, Issa Dee-style, as the main character. And because Union is a kind and generous person, he posted the entire segment on Instagram as a true gift to those of us who can't stay up past 7 pm on a Sunday night.
Union began this hilarious bit by putting on his robe and bonnet and putting on makeup in the mirror (probably getting ready for the Emmys). After checking over her shoulder to make sure there were no onlookers, she launched into a rapturous rap about the many wonders of "Insecure. 'Black Girl Magic. My girls do their duty. Plus they show their boy boots in the love scenes," she rapped.
As her husband Dwayne Wade gingerly entered from behind (side note: look at that adorable "Kaavia" necklace!) ), Union continued, "I'm so proud of this show. This show is the funniest thing I've ever seen. Issa is trying to find himself and Molly has money. They're falling in and out of love. So cute to watch. Did I mention that the love scenes show the boys' booty? Sadly, when Wade gets too enthusiastic about her ass, "Gab!" but she still had time to say a few words before she left the set, "Team Lawrence!" before she left the set.
