Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank are expecting their first child.
Big news broke this morning: Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank (open in new tab) have had a baby! Princess Eugenie posted a sweet photo of her baby shoes on her personal Instagram page.
"Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie and Mr. Jack Brooksbank are delighted to announce that the baby is due in early 2021," the @RoyalFamily tweet read." The Duke and Duchess of York, Duchess Sarah, Mr. and Mrs. George Brooksbank, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh are delighted with this news."
Eugenie, meanwhile, shared a photo of herself and what appears to be Brooksbank holding very cute teddy bear baby shoes (her impressive engagement ring is also in the photo). Sharing a photo of the second set of parents-to-be, Eugenie wrote, "Jack and I are so looking forward to early 2021.... " she wrote. Speaking of baby shoes? The good news is that they are surprisingly affordable at only 8 pounds (about $10) (opens in new tab). The 'bad news' is that retailer John Lewis is not shipping to the U.S.
As the BBC reports (opens in new tab), Eugenior (sorry) will be the queen's ninth great-grandson, and, immediately after Eugenie herself, 11th in line to the throne. However, it is unlikely that this newborn will have a royal title: as the BBC explains, "Because he will be born in the royal female line, Mr. Brooksbank will have no royal status and will be a plain Master or Miss Brooksbank." Oh, the horror.
However, if the Queen intervenes by granting Brooksbank an earldom or by issuing a "patent writ" directly to the little baby, the baby could earn the title. Anyway, royal complications aside: congratulations, Eugenie and Jack!
