Joe Biden's Beauty Sponge is the Latest to Vote Flex
Beauty and politics are frequently intertwined, for better or worse. From empowering actions like Elizabeth Arden giving red lipstick to women in the suffrage movement in 1912 or TikTok (open in new tab) influencers using makeup tutorials to talk about Supreme Court justices instead of how to contour, to reasonably priced of haircuts (opens in new tab) to petty and outright misogynist attacks on the women in the House of Representatives for their haircuts (opens in new tab). Now, a group of anonymous beauty professionals are using their connections to launch Biden Beauty (opens in new tab) to raise money for the Democratic ticket of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.
"Beauty has always been inherently political," says a spokesperson for this secretive brand. 'From time immemorial to the present, people from all walks of life have participated in beautification as an act of defiance. We are excited to send a message that this country is only as powerful as the diversity of its people. We hope that there will be underrepresented voices from all walks of life that will feel welcome in this country."
[4Currently, the only cosmetic product available for purchase is Biden Beat (open in new tab), a double-sided blending sponge designed to buff and blend foundation, concealer, and bronzer for $20.20. You can also get a sweatshirt and tote emblazoned with "America is Beautiful," but for those who want full-face democracy, the brand's We Glow High Kamala Highlighting Stick and Biden Bounce Hyaluronic Acid serum will be available in a few weeks will be available in the coming weeks.
Although not officially linked to the Biden campaign, all sales from BidenBeauty.com (opens in new tab) will go to support the Biden Victory Fund (opens in new tab), where supporters can donate directly to the candidate's campaign. And while the brand is aimed at all who vote blue, the founders are laser-focused on capturing the attention of Generation Z, the demographic that will be the difference between winning and losing in the upcoming election. (The brand's release cites research predicting that one in ten voters is Gen Z, or about 24 million potential voters)

Generational divide aside, we're all for wearing our votes on our sleeves... Harris-themed highlighters, too.
