Joe Biden has officially won the election and people are flooding the streets to celebrate!

People across the country flooded the streets to celebrate Joe Biden's victory over Donald Trump in the 2020 U.S. presidential election. Biden and Kamala Harris (opens in new tab) (who made history as the first woman elected vice president, the first black, and the first South Asian) clinched victory in the swing state of Pennsylvania on Saturday morning after a nail-biting week, winning 20 crucial Electoral College votes. As a result, Biden received 279 electoral votes (opens in new tab), surpassing the 270 minimum needed to win the election.

President-elect Joe Biden (wow, it feels so good to type that word!) tweeted the following earlier today. 'America, I am honored that you have chosen me to lead this great nation. The road ahead will be difficult, but I promise you this: I will be a President for all Americans. Whether you vote for me or not, I will be the president for all Americans.

Feel free to pause here and congratulate me on your choice. Appropriate responses include (but are not limited to) opening champagne, cheering, clapping, shedding tears of joy, honking horns, dancing in the streets, buying a megaphone and cheering with it, drinking more champagne, and of course ringing cowbells. (Side note: where can I buy a cowbell?

Meanwhile, President Trump is spending Saturday golfing:

It's been a long and stressful week (and an even longer and more stressful election season...) [and, let's be honest, even longer and more stressful the last four years), we can finally take the next step: unify the country and make positive change for all Americans. Let Biden and Harris lead the way and let the work begin.
