While we rarely froze for fashion before this year, in 2020 we won't be wearing herringbone coats and teddy Sherpas when temperatures drop below freezing. Unfortunately, finding an insulating winter jacket is easier said than done. I recently spent several weeks searching for the right one for me.

Despite the plethora of choices out there, too many women's winter coats feel like (at best) a "you pick two" scenario when it comes to warmth, cuteness, useful pockets, and a soul-crushing price tag. And what about button closures? Who is going to spend time on such nonsense when it is so cold outside that you can't even feel your thumbs?

These problems seemingly disappeared when I discovered Orolay, a functional coat that meets all of my aforementioned criteria. While perusing the down coat options on Prime Day, a lesser-known style caught my eye.

Living up to its name, Orolay's stylish down jackets for women seemed like a mirage at first, given their $120 price tag and sleek design. Dear readers, I cannot stress enough how comfortable this coat is. It is a down jacket with impressive insulation, yet it is surprisingly not bulky. And in terms of warmth retention, I wore this coat on a long walk around London (where I am currently working remotely) in 38-degree temperatures, wearing only a T-shirt. [The coat's silhouette is longer in the back and has a boxy yet fashionable fit that surpasses any other puff coat I own. Another notable feature, which I didn't notice at first, is the drawstring on the inside, which can be adjusted to create a slightly more fitted look.

Orolay's Stylish Down Jacket comes in navy, black, gray, and green. And because this look somehow managed to stay under the radar, nearly every size of each color is still available. Telling the world how good this coat is feels like giving away a secret, but if it can bring even one more person the joy they need right now, I'm totally fine with that.
