I'll confess something shocking: I was never a sweatpants person. Even in college, when casual attire was appropriate, I would wear jeans (or leggings when I was feeling particularly lazy) to my early morning classes. I always felt somewhat saddened by certain qualities of sweatpants. They were oversized, easily misshapen, and not something I wanted to wear in front of someone I had a crush on.

Then came the pandemic and quarantine. I looked in my closet and found that all of my "comfortable" clothes were either not that comfortable or really, really not sexy. Feeling my despair, Instagram suddenly started showing ads for a new brand: Joa Brown. Suddenly, sweatpants caught my eye, paired with tiny cropped shirts and revealing bralettes. If I hadn't been stranded at my parents' house with only enough clothes for one carry-on suitcase, I probably would have kept scrolling. But since my clothing options were extremely limited, I decided to buy a Joie Brown sweatshirt.

To say that my stance on sweatpants has changed would be an understatement. Not only are Joa Brown bottoms the coziest items in my closet, but they are more versatile than I ever imagined. I enjoy wearing them with a hoodie for maximum comfort or with a cropped shirt for a more mature look. I wear them everywhere, whether in my apartment or with a face mask outdoors. Six months after I became obsessed with that Insta ad, I bought two Jore Brown sweatshirts. I now have the extra small/small size in black and the small/medium size in charcoal for when I want a looser fit. I am aware that these are quite expensive sweatpants. On the other hand, considering that I wear them every day, the cost per pair is close to zero.
