British model Stella Tennant has passed away. She was 50 years old.

A family spokesperson acknowledged the sad news in a statement: "It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Stella Tennant on December 22, 2020. Stella was an amazing woman and an inspiration to us all. She will be greatly missed."

Her striking looks helped define the fashion of the 90s, and her pixie haircuts, piercing blue gaze, and angular figure resonated with the grunge era, but her career was not limited to this decade.

Born in Scotland to an aristocratic family, Tennant's career began while attending Southampton University. She sent a photograph to a magazine editor, which caught the eye of photographer Steven Meisel. He soon appeared on the cover, formed a designer-muse relationship with Helmut Lang and later Karl Lagerfeld, and signed an exclusive contract with Chanel because of his resemblance to Coco Chanel, the founder of Chanel.

Over the course of his career, Tennant continued to adorn covers, spreads, and campaigns for Burberry, Calvin Klein, Hermès, Prada, and Alexander McQueen. She was also one of nine models to appear at the closing ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics. [In 1999, she married photographer-turned-osteopath David Lasnett. They had four children and lived in the village of Edrom in Berwickshire, Scotland.

"Her family has asked that her privacy be respected," the spokesman continued. 'Arrangements for a memorial service will be announced at a later date.'
