Prince William is mistaken for an intruder and cornered by attack dogs at Sandringham.
One would think that members of the royal family would be allowed to roam where they please in the royal residence. Unfortunately for Prince William (opens in new tab), however, it appears that at least one royal guard dog missed the memo.
In a new interview with the Eastern Daily Press (opens in new tab), now-retired police officer John Chandler shared a story about a police dog he was handler of and Prince William (opens in new tab) that happened years ago at the Queen's Sandringham estate (opens in new tab) ), and he shared a story that happened at the Queen's Sandringham residence (opens in new tab). Briefly: Will was taking a late-night walk around the property when the dog smelled him, thought he was an intruder on the property, and cornered him until his handler could arrive on the scene.
"Particularly amusing was the night I was walking my dog off leash around the property and he chased the future King of England," Chandler explained.
"It was late at night, Prince William was walking to the garage, and the dog got the scent of him and chased him away."
Fortunately for all involved, Will (himself a lifelong dog lover) handled the situation perfectly and no harm was done.
"He took it as a joke. He was young," Chandler said of Will's reaction. 'If he had bitten me, I would have been in big trouble, but fortunately the dog did what it had to do and just backed up and barked at him. It was a night I'll never forget
