Body Language Expert Analyzes Meghan and Harry's Oprah Interview

In an interview with Oprah on Sunday, Meghan and Harry opened up about the struggles they experienced during their time as active royals. While Meghan opened up about her mental health (opens in new tab) and the racism she endured at the palace (opens in new tab), Harry explained that he ultimately chose to leave the royal family to protect his wife and children (opens in new tab). The couple announced earlier this year that they were permanently stepping down from their royal duties. In a candid prime-time special, the Sussex couple's body language was as loud as their troubling and sometimes disturbing revelations.

Body language expert and author of Snap: Making the Most of First Impression, Body Language, and Charisma (opens in new tab), Patti Wood, Marie Claire, tells "Marie Claire" that despite Princess Meghan's cautious admission, it is clear that she is still holding back.

"There is a mixture of emotions in her eyes. She is wistful. She is looking far away, remembering. Part of her is smiling as she remembers, but there are also tears in her eyes," Wood says. 'She's remembering everything about the wedding, and part of her is nostalgic, and part of her is crying. It's a complicated emotion. And overall, she wants to contain and suppress these complex emotions."

Wood also noted that Meghan wanted to protect herself from the audience's judgment earlier in the interview." She crosses (her legs) to protect herself from the audience, the viewers. Her hands are on her knees. It is to protect herself from attacks on her identity and her femininity."

She also mentions that she "had a very strong sense of self-preservation.

Not only did Queen Meghan have a complicated relationship with her audience, but she also had a complicated relationship with the queen. Although Princess Meghan spoke favorably about the matriarch, Wood noted that her body language revealed something more complex. He said, "At the beginning of the interview, Oprah introduces the queen, but Meghan actually sounded and gestured complex and negative about the queen.

"She kind of snorted. When I say [the Queen] was one of the first people I met, she looks down and scowls. She would stick her tongue out at me. It's a beautiful example of how not saying the words reveals how she really feels and the story that contradicts it."

In a harrowing description of Princess Meghan's mental health struggles, her gestures shifted from callous to a whirlwind of painful recollections. She is trying to suppress the memory of that terrible time. When she cried, they were real tears.

Meghan's attitude clearly changed when she spoke of the Palace's outrageous "concern" about Archie's skin color. For Wood, this part of the interview was the most frightening. For the Duchess's body language suggested that she was truly in a state of fear." Seat adjustment. It symbolizes an unconscious desire to escape the situation."

[18 There was a moment when [Oprah] tried to find out who said that about Archie's skin color.

Harry, on the other hand, seemed saddened and resigned to the fact that he could not protect his family. If you look at Harry, you can see that he has hands and arms to protect his manhood. You can see how his whole body feels, how it is tilted, planted, and crumpled [by the lack of family support]."

The interview revealed the trauma that Meghan suffered during her stay in London, but the couple's body language spoke of their love and devotion to each other through the difficult times. When Princess Meghan revealed the sex of her second child, Wood noted that her smile belonged to her second child. When Princess Meghan revealed the sex of her second child, Wood notes that her smile was so genuine that the duchess looked very comfortable and happy. She even giggled.

During a tough conversation about racism at Buckingham Palace and the desire to marginalize Meghan, the Sussexes took each other by the hand and supported each other.

"I read hundreds of pictures. Whenever he speaks, she looks at him. If they could touch, they would. So if people are wondering how they are doing as a couple now, they support each other. They are used to getting comfort from each other."
