Kate Middleton and Prince William drop Christmas special from BBC after controversial documentary

For the first time this year, Kate Middleton will host a Christmas carol concert to be broadcast live from Westminster Abbey on television, and Prince William will be there to support her.

The show was scheduled to air on the BBC, but the royal family has reportedly withdrawn the show from the channel after it aired the first part of a controversial documentary that pitted Prince William against Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The show will now be broadcast on the British channel ITV instead.

"This is a coup for ITV," a TV source told The Sun. 'This is the first time the royal family has hosted a concert on television. And for the Duchess to lead this concert is a big deal."

The source added, "Naturally, most royal programming automatically goes to the BBC, the state-run broadcaster. However, it is likely that there will be more cooperation with ITV in the future."

This is a major blow to the BBC, and the rift may not be limited to this program. 'For home viewers, it will be a wonderful Christmas carol concert that will be TV gold. It was due to be broadcast on BBC1, but due to the terrible uproar over the documentary, that has been changed in the last few days."

The Cambridges' decision to leave the BBC came after the first part of "The Princes and the Press" was broadcast on November 22. The second part will air on November 29." And with the second part of the documentary threatening to go further, things are likely to get much worse between the royal family and the BBC before they get better."

Buckingham Palace, Clarence House, and Kensington Palace issued a joint statement to the BBC. A free, responsible, and open press is crucial to a healthy democracy. However, too often exaggerated and unsubstantiated claims from unnamed sources are presented as fact, and it is disappointing when anyone, including the BBC, gives credence to them" (via Metro).

One royal official told the Daily Mail prior to the documentary's airing, "I am upset. Everyone in the royal family agrees that this is not fair. No one at the palace has seen it."
