Prince William "laid eyes" on Kate Middleton at age 9, expert says

Apparently, Kate Middleton and Prince William had met before their official meeting at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. [Kate was enrolled at St. Andrews Prep and William at Radgrove Prep. One day, the Prince's school went to the future Duchess's school for a hockey game.

"She wasn't particularly interested in boys, but the arrival of a young man caught her attention," author Katie Nicole wrote in "Kate: Queen of the Future" (via Express).

"The nearby Radgrove Prep School often played St. Andrews Prep, and there was much excitement when Prince William, the left back on Radgrove's Colts team, came to St. Andrews," Nicole continued. Prince William, like Kate, loved sports and was one of the top players in his grade in hockey and rugby." [Of course, the prince's arrival created a whirlwind of excitement."

Nicole did not elaborate on whether the two actually spoke at the time.

The future Cambridges really met in college, in large part because of their living arrangements; in a 2010 joint interview, Middleton said, "I feel like when I met you, I turned bright red and ran away embarrassed." But actually, William wasn't at Fresher's Week at first, so it took us a little while to get to know each other, but we became very close friends fairly early on."[9

Prince William, on how he knew his now wife was the one, said, "When I first met Kate, I knew there was something special about her. I thought there might be something there that I wanted to explore. We became friends for a while, and that was a good foundation. I think being friends is a big advantage now. It went from there. And as the years went by, I could see that things were getting better and better, and like any relationship, we stumbled a few times, but we really got back up and kept going. The weird problems we had when we first got to know each other are all gone now, and we're really easy to be with, really fun, and I'm really funny, and she loves that, so it's good." Very sweet.
