Royal Watchers Discover Unpublished Photos of Royal Grandchildren at Windsor Castle
The British royal family lives in the public eye, but much of their daily life is still private. Case in point: Queen Elizabeth gave us a glimpse of a family photo we've never seen before, though no one knows if it was truly intentional.
On December 8, the Queen held a small ceremony at Windsor Castle to award the Order of Music to concert organist Thomas Trotter. The ceremony was also attended by the Queen's Master of Music, Judith Weir.
The ceremony was significant in that it was the first time Queen Elizabeth welcomed visitors to Windsor since her extended absence in October, when doctors recommended only "light work, mainly desk work" due to a back injury.
But it is also significant that among the photos of the Queen welcoming Trotter is a family photo on display that had not previously been shown to the public.
In the photo, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip sit on a gold sofa, surrounded by the youngest royals. Princess Charlotte, then just a toddler, sits on the queen's lap.
Also on the sofa are Prince William and Kate Middleton's oldest son, Prince George (Prince Louis was not born at the time), Ira and Savannah Phillips (daughter of Princess Anne's son Peter Phillips and the Queen's eldest grandchild), Mia Tindall (Princess Anne's daughter Zara Tindall daughter of Princess Anne and the Queen's eldest grandson) are also present.
"The photo appears to have been taken around the end of 2016," People reported." Princess Charlotte would have been around 18 months, and all the other young royals would have been between the ages of two and six." That's quite a lot of children to control, but clearly the Queen and Philip had it under control!"
Trotter.
Another photo seen during Trotter's ceremony was taken in 2018 and shows the Queen holding young Prince Louis and Prince Philip with six other great-grandchildren. The photo, taken in Balmoral by Kate Middleton, was shared by the royal family days after the prince's death in April.
In addition to entertaining Thomas Trotter this month, the 95-year-old queen jointly attended the christening of her great-grandchildren August Brooksbank and Lucas Tyndall on November 21 and hosted Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey at Windsor Castle a few days later.
She will be leaving for Sandringham in a few days to prepare for the family's Christmas festivities.
