Rihanna's New Wax Figure at Madame Tussauds Hated
It's hard to imagine anyone being offended by anything resembling Rihanna. But when Madame Tussauds transformed a wax figure of Rihanna for Christmas, the Internet erupted in outrage.
Madame Tussauds in Berlin displayed a wax figure of Rihanna in 2011. But the current holiday-specific statue is... Not good. Very bad hair (those bangs!) ) aside, the figure wears a revealing red suit and stockings and looks nothing like the nine-time Grammy winner.
At least the tattoos are correct.
Twitter user Fenty Headlines (@FentyHeadlines) posted two photos of the wax figure on December 15, with the innocent "Rihanna's wax figure at Madame Tussauds in Berlin, Germany, has a new face for Christmas." It was accompanied by a caption. That was enough to send fans into a virtual uproar.
The reactions ranged from outraged to amused, with many saying the statue looked more like Lily Allen than the Queen of Barbados. Here are some of the best reactions:
"Melt it down. Now." (@Milktmamii)
"Someone go turn on the heat in Madame Tussaud's store asap." (@sirzeldin)
"Thats not rihanna thats her cousin rehaynna" (@folkeiry)
"This? This is Rihanna? You made her from memory?" (@iamsylvia_a)
"I was shown a wax figure of Rihanna and I have some notes" (@ryanbailey25)
"Rihanna's wax figure is a hate crime" (@_BeeEv)

"Good Madame Rihanna's wax figure looks like a tanned but recovering white guy with a nose." (@NoThebaine)
This is not the first time that Madame Tussaud's statues, especially those depicting black female celebrities, have caused controversy. In 2019, a figure of Beyoncé in midtown Manhattan was heavily criticized for being too light-skinned.
The Nicki Minaj statue at the Berlin Museum was also publicly condemned in 2020 for not resembling the rapper, with one person tweeting, "Everyone involved in the creation of this travesty deserves to be imprisoned."
