Meghan Markle is a "perfect copy" of Princess Diana, body language expert says
Ever since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle released their holiday card on December 23, we've been talking about it. Little Lilibet, Archie's red hair
And now we have another reason to love this family photo: Meghan Markle's pose is almost identical to the photo of Princess Diana holding Prince William on February 1, 1983.
In the photo of Meghan and Princess Diana, the mother holds her baby in an upright position and looks up at her child with loving eyes. At least according to Judy James, a body language expert known for her analysis of the royal family.
"The body language that Meghan is using here with her baby is almost a perfect copy of the pose that Diana had with her own baby many years ago," James said in an interview with the Daily Express. 'They both define themselves as loving, doting mothers in this pose, looking down at their babies and smiling and laughing as they do so, making them appear playful.'
James further describes the joy and rapture on the faces of the two mothers and how that joy is reflected in their children (Lilibet in 2021 and William in 1983).
There is one notable difference in the pictures, however, and it is a sad one.
"Both Princess Meghan and Princess Diana are in profile, leaning forward to look up at their children, higher than their own heads," James says.
"But while Princess Meghan's head is leaning against the chest of the royal prince, whom she so clearly loves and is loved by, Princess Diana's head, sadly, is supported only by a cushion. This is not the first time the Duchess of Sussex has been compared to her late mother-in-law. Princess Meghan's extensive humanitarian work has often been compared alongside Princess Diana's philanthropic spirit, and both famously dealt with depression while pregnant with the royal baby.
Most notable, however, is how both Meghan and Princess Diana have been treated by the press. Harry compares the negative coverage his wife often receives to the tabloids' pursuit of Diana in the 1980s and 1990s. This was one of the main reasons the Duke and Duchess of Sussex decided last year to leave their royal roles and move to California.
