Prince Harry and Meghan Markle expected to return to the UK this spring.
There may be big plans for Harry and Meghan. According to royal experts, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expected to return to England this spring.
Prince Harry and his family will visit Europe for the Invictus Games in May. Founded by Prince Harry, the event will see wounded and injured soldiers and veterans compete in adaptive parasports. The past two years' competitions were postponed due to a pandemic, and the next one is scheduled to take place in the Netherlands from May 29 to June 5.
In any case, it makes sense for the Sussex family to visit the UK since they plan to travel the continent, speculates Russell Myers, royal editor of the Daily Mirror, in a podcast called "Pod Save the Queen."
"I think it's probably a fair bet that we might see them next spring," Myers said.
The games coincide with the Platinum Jubilee weekend, June 2-5, which celebrates the Queen's 70 years as monarch. Queen Elizabeth is the longest reigning monarch in the country's history and the first to celebrate a platinum jubilee. Although not yet confirmed by the palace, royal experts expect Harry and Meghan to attend the celebration, despite family rifts.
"I think it's a certainty that Harry and Meghan will return to the UK," said royal expert Katie Nicole. 'I think the Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June 2022 are the most likely occasion for them to come and join the official celebration of the Queen's 70th anniversary.'
If they do return, it will be more than two years since the Sussexes set foot in England together. Harry and Meghan have not returned to Harry's home country as a couple since March 2020, when he resigned his senior royal position and moved to California.
Harry has since returned briefly once in April to attend the funeral of his grandfather Prince Philip and once in July to attend the unveiling of a memorial statue to Princess Diana at Kensington Palace in London, where Prince William and Kate Middleton live. Princess Meghan was unable to attend both times. In April, Princess Meghan was advised not to travel because she was pregnant and was recovering from giving birth to Princess Rivette Diana just weeks before the unveiling of the statue.
Archie has not returned to the country of his birth since the family's departure and has never visited Lili. He has met his great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, via video chat, but has never met his family in England in person. Archie and Lili have British and American parents, so their children have dual citizenship.
The married couple made their first public appearance at the Invictus Games in Toronto in September 2017. What we did not know at the time was that Harry and Meghan were already secretly engaged, and that Meghan's choice of attire at the games was indicative of this momentous event; the two publicly announced their engagement in November of that year.
