Jamie Lynn Spears Breaks Silence on Britney Relationship in Exclusive Interview
Jamie Lynn Spears has opened up. In a new interview on Good Morning America, the actress and singer broke her silence about her relationship with her sister, Britney. Britney has recently accused Jamie Lynn several times for not helping her during her 13 years of "abuse" and for singing a cover of a Britney song at an event.
"First of all, it was really important for me to honor my voice," Jamie Lynn said when asked why she wrote her memoir, Things I Should Have Said. 'Because if I didn't, I couldn't expect my daughters to stand up for themselves.' (She has two daughters, Maddie and Ivy.)
Jamie Lynn shared how difficult childhood was for her, including dealing with the emotional toll of her father Jamie's alcoholism.
"For me, it ...... created a lot of anxiety. The hardest things were the things that every child wonders about, like, 'Can I trust you?' and 'Are you drinking or not?'"
When asked about Britney's current mental state and her earlier comments about her sister's "out of the ordinary" behavior, Jamie Lynn said, "I can't speak to other people's mental states. But I am allowed to say how I felt in that situation. Because what matters is that I was suffering."
Jamie Lynn explained why she was not involved in Britney's conservatorship situation, "First of all, what I don't understand is, I was 17 when it was carried out. I was about to give birth, so I didn't understand what was going on, and I wasn't focused on that. I was focused on the fact that I was 17 and about to have a baby."
She also explained that she did not want to get involved in conservatorship, perhaps because it seemed too cumbersome and complicated.
"I was always my sister's biggest supporter, so when she needed help, I had a way to do that," she revealed.
"I went out of my way to make sure my sister had the connections she needed to end this conservatorship and make it all go away for the family. If it's going to be this discordant, why continue?
She did not take a position for or against the conservatorship, but explained that she believes Britney should be able to make her own decision. 'So if she wanted to talk to other people, I did. 'I've talked to her legal team, her previous legal team. So ...... I have taken steps to help, but how many times can I take steps ...... See, she has to walk through the door."
Crying, Jamie Lynn continued, "I love her. I love my sister. I just... I just ...... I just love my sister, I support her, and I've done what's right for her.
