British Army Regiment asks Kate Middleton to replace Prince Andrew as Colonel

By all accounts, Kate Middleton appears to be an incredibly kind and capable person, and those winning qualities may have opened the door to a historic military appointment in the British Army.

Many members of the royal family have held military honors and often serve in the British military themselves. Prince Philip, Prince Charles, Prince William, and Prince Harry have all served and hold military honors.

Prince Andrew recently held nine Colonel's decorations, but was forced to return many of them to the Queen when he received word that his ongoing court martial would not end soon. He has been accused of sexual abuse by Virginia Giuffre, who claims that the incident occurred when she was only 17 years old and is related to Prince Andrew's friendship with Jeffrey Epstein. Prince Andrew denies the allegations, and the presiding judge in the civil suit recently denied Prince Andrew's motion to dismiss the case.

The Queen currently holds the role, with no answer to a decision on who will be appointed to the title. However, according to a senior official in the British Army's Grenadier Regiment, Kate Middleton is high on the wish list of those actually serving. According to The Times (opens in new tab), an unnamed senior official in the Guard Regiment said, "From the straw poll through the ranks, everyone wants Kate. She never seems to step out of line"

.

She will be the first female regimental commander appointed in the regiment's 366-year history. The official continued, "She is serious about everything she has undertaken and we want someone who is serious about engaging with us."

Not only is Kate likely to challenge for the military title, but her appointment would be a firm indication that the royal family intends to modernize. Who will receive the title will be announced next week.
