Brenda Song says she was not allowed to read from "Crazy Rich Asians" because she was "basically inadequate as an Asian."

Brenda Song is a prolific actress. We first got to know and love her as the good-natured heiress London Tipton in The Suite Life of Zack and Cody. She later appeared in "The Social Network" and "New Girl". She is currently starring in the Hulu series "Dollface" opposite Kat Dennings and Shay Mitchell.

With all of the above, Song has had an impressive and ever-improving career.

However, in an interview with Teen Vogue magazine, Song recounted the upsetting moment when she was denied an audition for the movie she really wanted, Crazy Rich Asians. The film, essentially the first ever big-budget Asian-led romantic comedy, was an important turning point in Hollywood, and Song felt it was a perfect fit for her.

"A lot of people don't know this, but I never did a book reading for Crazy Rich Asians," she told Teen Vogue. However, she was told that she was not a good fit for the role of Rachel Chu, and Constance Wu was chosen for the role.

"The reason was that my image was basically un-Asian. It broke my heart." [This character is in her late to mid-twenties and is Asian-American, and she can't even audition? I've been auditioning for white roles my whole life, and they won't let me audition for this one. I was like, "Where do I fit in?" I was like, "I don't know,"

.

But in the end, the actress had no regrets. She said, "Brenda, you are only one person. You can't change your past. I am so grateful for all the work I have done. All I can do is keep auditioning well and doing my best. Wise words.
