One of Princess Diana's bridesmaids says she was "amazed" by her dress
The July 1981 wedding of Princess Diana and Prince Charles was watched by more than 750 million people around the world, and many in the United States were up before dawn to watch the wedding live. Dubbed the "wedding of the century," the ethereal photograph of Princess Diana in David and Elizabeth Emanuel's wedding dress remains an important image of the era in which it was taken.
India Hicks, Prince Charles' cousin, who was 12 years old when she served as one of Princess Diana's bridesmaids, recently recalled the occasion in an interview with Insider.
Hicks spoke of that fluffy fashion, saying, "It was a time, a place, a moment of fashion in the 1980s: voluptuous, over-the-top, drama around every corner."
She continued: "I know those dresses were appropriate for the era. But if you were a tomboy like me, ...... proud and delighted when asked to be a bridesmaid, but as you can imagine, a little wary of being asked to wear a frilly dress."

This is not the first time Hicks has spoken publicly about her experience at the most high-profile wedding of her time. Hicks, a model, designer, and author who lives in the Bahamas with her husband and children, says in her book India Hicks: Island Style, published in 2015, that the wedding "betrayed the confusion of a relationship that should have been celebrated." At the time, I think everyone thought this was a fairy tale.
She also described the event as "one of the worst hair days ever."
