Matthew Perry Ready to Reveal Life's Peaks and Valleys in Upcoming Autobiography

When Matthew Perry announced the publication of his autobiography in October, it caused a stir among "Friends" fans.

The book, due out in the fall of 2022, will open up about the actor's experiences on the hit TV show and his struggle with addiction. Now, speaking to People, Perry explains that he wanted us to hear it all from him, not rumors.

"So much has been written about me," he said. I thought it was about time people heard about me." The highs were high and the lows were low. But sometimes it didn't seem like it. All of that is here."

In typical Chandler-Bing fashion, he apologized for not being a pop-up picture book. The apology was duly accepted.

Perry also has a theory about why you (no, let's be honest, I) still go back to "Friends" over and over: "It was character-driven laughter, not timely laughter. There were no timely jokes; there were no jokes about O.J. Simpson." And people would go back and see it again and again. Way to call me out, TBH."

After securing Perry's book, publisher Flatiron Books said, "In the book, Perry takes readers behind the scenes and on the soundstage of the most successful sitcom of all time, while opening up about his personal struggle with addiction. Perry's memoir, the first from a "Friends" cast member, is unflinchingly honest, chatty, and hilarious. This is the book that 'Friends' fans have been waiting for and will be a powerful light for those fighting for themselves and their loved ones."
